Ayurvedic Breast Care and Lactation Consultation

Ayurvedic Breast Care is a well rounded course that offers education surrounding breast/chestfeeding. Common ailments associated with lactation are discussed in regards to diagnosis and treatment paired with ayurvedic solutions and understanding. This course places a direct focus on preventative care and the optimization of breast milk within the postpartum window. Ayurvedic Breast Care describes the anatomical and physiological changes the breasts undergo within all phases of reproduction.

As an Ayurvedic Doula, you will learn how to educate your client’s on basic breast wellness and common concerns that may arise. You will also learn signs and symptoms associated with imbalances and how to implement a plan of treatment per individual client. Treatment options include Ayurvedic herbal preparations such as oils, salves, compresses, and decoctions. Furthermore, the doshas; Vata, Pitta, and Kapha and how they manifest within the scope of Breast Care will be fully understood upon completion of this course. Students will comprehend how to perform Marma Chikitsa and Ayurvedic breast massage on themselves and client’s respectively.

A certified Lactation Consultant will also be covering the fundamentals of breastfeeding pertaining to latching, breastfeeding positions, when and how to breastfeed, lifestyle, etc. Gaining this knowledge will allow the Ayurvedic Postpartum Doula to have confidence and instill this same confidence in their breastfeeding client’s. Scope of practice and when to refer out to other health professionals is also explored in Ayurvedic Breast Care.
